Why do you only accept ChordPro files? Why not texts or PDFs?

We want the songbook to be as usable as possible for as many people as possible.
This also includes chords, because we’re hosting songs, not poems.
And unlike PDFs, ChordPro files can be automatically transposed, properly indexed, and you can do many great things with them (see Songbook Apps).
We think that’s absolutely worth the extra effort when submitting.

Will the lyrics I submit become searchable on the internet via Google?

No. The songs themselves are publicly accessible on our server, but in an area that isn’t indexed by Google.
While the info pages are all findable via search engines, the song lyrics and song directories aren’t.
This means the whole thing is semi-public – whoever has the link can find and read the files. Without the link, it’ll be difficult to find the files.
We can’t 100% guarantee that there aren’t data crawlers that dig through such structures. But at least with a simple search query on the web, they shouldn’t show up.
(And yes, this is intentional, to protect the privacy of our submitters from being found by work colleagues etc.)

Can I also submit sheet music?

Not yet. 🙂
But hopefully in the medium term.

Until then, you’re welcome to host sheet music somewhere yourself (or ask other filkers to do it for you) and link to it in your ChordPro files.

Can I submit recordings?

No. Hosting recordings requires completely different legal basics than we cover here.
But there are already good central platforms for hosting music files, so we won’t be hosting recordings.

However, you can link to an online recording of a song in your ChordPro files.

The formatting is quite complicated… Help?

If you can’t manage to format your files using our ChordPro instructions, feel free to write us an email with [Help] in the subject line (for our address, see the Legal Notice) or contact us on Discord.
We’re happy to help, and once you’ve gotten used to the ChordPro format, it’s really not that difficult anymore. Promise. 🙂

I’m unsure about the chords to my song

If you don’t play an accompanying instrument yourself, this can be tricky.
If you need help figuring out what chords your song has, you can ask in the song help channel on Discord, where we have people who are happy to help. 🙂
(Otherwise, you’re also always welcome to reach out to German filkers Katy or Dani for something like that.)

Is this a German platform?

As you can see, we also exist in English now! Currently the team consists of German filkers, but international submissions are warmly welcomed!

How often do new songs appear here?

That depends on several things:

  • How many songs are submitted
  • How much time the members of the curation team currently have available (and how many active members we currently have on the curation team)

Once a song is fully curated, you’ll receive feedback by email.
The song then goes online with the next update cycle and can then be found on all appropriate index pages.
(For this, a script must run that currently still needs to be triggered manually. For now, expect approximately weekly updates (Tuesdays), possibly more often.)
